Storjordfjellkoia was built in the early 19th century. It originally stood further up the Saltdalen valley, where it served as a forestry cabin. Eight forestry workers lived in one part of the building, while the other part, now converted into a kitchen, was used as a stable for the horses. The cabin accommodates 4–6 people and has two family bunk beds.

By the early 20th century, the cabin had fallen into poor condition and was dismantled and restored. It underwent another restoration in the late 1950s before being relocated to Storjordfjellet.

Follow the signs from Nordland National Park Centre and take the trail to the suspension bridge crossing the Junkerdalselva River. Continue north, following the signs up the steep forest road, which leads all the way to Storjordfjellkoia.

Much of the hike passes through the Junkerdalsura Nature Reserve. Near the top of the hillside, you will be rewarded with magnificent views across the reserve and the Junkerdalselva River below. Allow approximately one hour to reach the cabin.
